Interior design: the choice of the table and role in the flat
The table is the hearth of a home, that allows relatives to stop for a moment seating together at the family meal. It is also a place that allows to spend special moments with friends. The table is an essential element of any interior, a place where we not only eat meals, but above all we share a common time. It can also perform other functions – in small interiors it can be used as a workplace. Which model of a table to choose? What requirements it should meet?
Hit the table…
Its shape and size should be adapted to the individual needs of users. The choice of a proper model depend on the interior surface, the number of household members and their lifestyle. Which model will meet the expectations of users and guarantee the functionality at the same time? In the wide range of products available on the market we can find tables made both from natural and synthetic materials. Our projects are invariably dominated by models of solid wood, which prove themselves both for the aesthetic and functionality.
Wooden table is attractive, extremely durable and pleasant to the touch. It facilitates the maintenance of cleanliness. What is also popular is furniture covered with veneer. The table with a glass top (clear or frosted) with a metal or wooden frame fits perfectly in modern arrangements, but its drawback has a lower degree of damages resistance and makes it difficult to maintain cleanliness. A dirt will be visible on a glass countertop.
The table can be placed in the kitchen, dining room or open living room. In large interiors it can become the central point of the whole arrangement. In the case of an open living room the table will serve as a link between the living area and the kitchen.
The shape of the table
In the small interior you can choose a square or rectangular table model, which can be placed near the wall, even directly adhering to it. A table with circular tabletop visually gives the impression of a smaller one and can be used by a larger number of people, however, it requires more space. That is why it should be placed in the central part of the room.
In the interiors of the small size you can use models with a folding top, which may be based on the traditional system (with fragment of the extension of the table top in its body), mechanism with extra side or an automatic system. Folding table saves a space and allows to receive visitors in special moments.
Interior designers recommend that the length of the edge of the countertop for one person eating a meal should be at least 55-60 cm. It is assumed that the distance for dishes for one user is about 40 cm. The minimum dimensions of a four-person table are therefore 120×80 cm. In the small interior will also work model with dimensions of 80×80 cm for a four-person family, a table with dimensions of 120×80 cm even for the six-person family. The standard seat has a depth of 45 cm. Interior designers assume that the minimum distance that allows for standing up of it is 60 cm. Optimum space to freely passage next to the table and chair fluctuates within 70-80 cm.
It is assumed that the standard height of the tabletop is about 75 cm. The space between its lower edge and the floor surface is at least 60 cm (ie. vertical clearance). Choosing the right model should be consistent with the whole arrangements and adapted especially to the model chosen chairs. We have just wrote of the chairs’ choose here.Open modal
